Organized by the Basque Institute of Criminology (University of the Basque Country, UPV- EHU), the XII Annual Conference of the European Society of Criminology (ESC) will take place in Bilbao from September 12th to 15th, 2012.
The Conference, which is organized on an annual basis since 2001 and this time will be held under the title “Criminology in the 21st Century: a necessary balance between Freedom and Security”, offers to all the participants an excellent opportunity to share the results of their researches in the field of Criminology through oral and poster presentations. Additionally, the last editions of the Conference have helped to make contacts and thus establish a network in order to implement significant European-level projects. On the other hand, the Annual Conference hosts the General Assembly of the European Society of Criminology. With the participation of the whole members of the Society, the General Assembly not only debates and decides the key issues of the Society but also provides the Executive Board specific directives for the year ahead. The special interest Criminology is stirring up to explain the criminal phenomenon. In this sense, the Conference will spur its consolidation as a science in search of this explanation demanded by society, which is having such a remarkable media impact over the past few years.
In collaboration with the European Society of Criminology (ESC).
